On trend at the moment seems to be and has been for a while 'strobing'. But I did see alot of matte skins cropping up in different shows such as Christopher Kane and Chloe. Truth be told I love both and love doing both on skin so in our lecture we had a go at creating both concentrating on the products we were using and HOW we were using them for the desired outcome.
For a dewy skin:
First I prepped the skin with MAC mineralize charged water gel and MAC strobe cream to create an illuminous effect. Next I mixed up two of my face and body foundations to create the perfect shade. (This is a good tip if you only have a limited amount of foundations in your kit I bought two C shades and two N shades so I would mix if i needed to for the time being).
Next I applied the foundation with a large stippling brush as I find these work best with lighter coverage foundations, it's easier to blend with and you can monitor the amount needed.
Once the base was done I applied MAC mineralize concealer under the eyes and lightly on the high points of the face and buffed these in to highlight.
I only set the base lightly for a dewy look with translucent powder on the corners of the head for example, slightly under the nose and so on. The key is to keep the skin looking as fresh as possible and adding too much powder would take this away.
If you want to finish the look brush the brows through with a brow gel to set them, a light application of blusher on the cheeks, light application of mascara and a natural shade of gloss or balm on the lips.
For a matte skin:
I started this look similarly to my dewy skin as I used Mineralize charged water gel to moisturise and a small amount of MAC skin refined zone where the pores appeared more visable and open. This keeps these areas nice and matte and helps to disguise the appearance of open pores once we've applied our base.
My chosen foundation was studio fix which normally I would use for a full coverage look, however I used the same stippling brush as this applies foundation lightly and this was the effect I wanted,
Once my face was applied the skin looked nice and matte but still needed a small amount of concealer under the eyes to highlight so I applied MAC select cover concealer which has a matte finish to it to keep the whole look nice and matte. I also applied this lightly to the high points of the face,
As the look was already quite matte I didn't add too much powder but only a little translucent to the most shiny points or areas that are most likely to shine.
Keeping the look quite matte I added a little matte blush from MAC in harmony.
