Sleek ponytail and french pleat

Sleek Ponytail

You will need:

Hair bungies
Hair Dryer
Pintail comb
Paddle brush
Hair tie
Water spray bottle

1. Spray the hair lightly with the spray bottle and take the hair dryer using it to blow the hair backwards to make it easier for you to work with.
2. Using the pintail comb section from the front of a head a section of hair in the shape of a V and pin this out of the way.
3. using your paddle brush sleek the rest of the hair into a ponytail making sure the back of the hair at the back of the neck is nice and tight.
4. Secure with a hair bungie making sure that the ponytail lines up in a diagonal line to the top of your models ear.
5. Next take the top section of hair that you pinned away and sleek this back into the ponytail tying a hair bungie around this also (you can choose to make this top section a little more volumous or sleek).
6. Finally take a section of hair from the base of the ponytail, comb and hairspray it, then wrap it around your ponytail to disguise the band.

I decided to make my sleek ponytail a little bit more avant garde with a more volumous top section, this can add a more three dimensional look!

Sleek ponytail with Quiff

1. If you take out the top section that you pinned into the ponytail you'll be left with the basis of your ponytail to work with.
2. Using your pintail comb lightly backcomb small sections from this front section of hair.
3. Once backcombed, tame with your pintail comb until the piece of hair sits where you wish it to.
4. Secure in place with a hair bungie, making sure that the stop section and the bottom section blend seamlessly.
5. take a small piece from the underneath of the ponytail, comb it, hairspray it and wrap it around the ponytail to disguise the band using a hair grip to secure it. You can also create an avant garde styled pontyail by taking out the top section and giving it a backcomb to create different shapes.

French Pleat

Hair pins
Hairspray
Hair Grips
Pintail comb
Curling tongs

1. Section a piece of hair off at the front of the head from temple to temple and section this piece away with a clip.
2. Curl the whole back section going away from the face and backcomb in the same direction.
3. Repeat this step with the top section paying close attention when backcombing the front of the head to ensure you get a good amount of lift.
4. Tame this section with a comb and twist, then pin into place with a grip.
5. Using your pintail comb brush this section of hair away from the top twist and pin into place at the middle point of the head.
6. As this hair has a lot of volume, you will now be able to create a roll shape with the hair and take it back on itself and pin into place.
7. Spray lightly with hairspray to finish.

My Advertising Make-up Look

Here above is my make-up moodboard and my styling and concept moodboard for my first advertising shoot with my model Wura. The make-up is going to be kept quite natural using the natural hues of the skin to enhance my models features, the skin will be kept glowing but matte with soft browns and a nude lip as skin is my main focus for this look and most of my looks actually throughout this project! I feel that glowing skin will be a good representation of the spring summer trend that has been so popular at the moment.

Advertising Look

I recently came across something that Inspired me and it gave me some more insight into what I would like to use for my advertising shoot coming up.

As my chosen product is the Givenchy Illuminating powder, I wanted to use something in my styling that would be quite reflective and something that would represent light coming from that person.

I found a jewelled shoulder piece that I think would be interesting to use for my shoot as one of my options.

Having spoken to my photographer lecturer, I'm thinking to try the image in black and white in postproduction, as much of Givenchy's advertising images are in fact black and white however we will have to see how the images turn out!

These images I found of Erykah Badu for Givenchy is how I would like my images to look, with a few more more black and white advertisement shots I found.

I love how simplistic these images are in terms of the set up, however they've both got eye catching detail (the image on the right in particular). I want my images to grab the attention of the audience much as Givenchy's images always do with a statement piece of jewellery etc.

I came across this two images whilst researching, and I really love the lighter image below. I think styling wise this would work with the idea of Spring/Summer 2016 and I could see this working for my lighter contrasting image (without the man!).

Timed Assessment and Catwalk Shots

So my timed assessment was finally upon me and having had trouble the week before with my model I had finally secured a model and would then be able to take my backstage images afterwards as I had originally planned. My lace piece was sewn and secured with white elastic and then pinned in areas where needed and I attached boning to the heightened parts of the headpiece also so it would stand up from the head.

The model's hair was parted half way to cover the band and then slicked back into a sleek ponytail and secured with a gold plated ring around the band.

I decided to go for a subtle gold paintpot on the eyes with a gold pigment pressed onto the inner corner matching with the gold ring in the back. My aim was to stick to Ricardo Tisci's original idea of using rings to symbolise love and wholeness.

Surprisingly the timed assessment went better than I expected as the images that came out I am extremely happy with, it challenged me as I always like making pieces for my shoots and I enjoyed the process.

My favourite image that I am going to submit for one of my final catwalk looks is the largest image on the left as I think it embodies Givenchy and their backstage style for Spring/Summer 16.

LOCATION

With the growing need to find a suitable location for my editorial shots, I decided to research Givenchy's editoiral shots to see if I could find a common thread to explore for my final images.

I really love the idea of using natural light for my day look with around 3-5 models in a similar location to this below:

I'm hoping to use the same models for my day and night look spread over 2 days, day and evening. Having spoke to Simon in our lesson recently, I've decided to use natural light and reflectors for this look with a 20-30 lens as this is quite a wide shot and I'm hoping to achieve the same thing.

These past editorial shots really inspired me when thinking of my evening look and I realised I'm going to need to do a bit of exploring in the evening to find a location thats well lit to be able to shoot in the evening. I'm planning on doing these shoots at the end of the month as I need to style all of my models keeping with my black and white theme using silks, satins and lace. I've currently got 2 male models in mind at the moment alongside 2 models so need to confirm my last model.

I'm sort of thinking of having a black and white shot for my advertising although I think I'll choose between either colour or black and white in postproduction. This black and white shot above is the sort of layout I want and the shot on the left has an element of split screen which just inspired me.

The Making of my Catwalk Look

When deciding what to do for my catwalk day and night looks I decided to incorporate the lace used in their current spring/summer 16 design but instead make it a statement piece attached to the model's hair and face.

This piece I created was made using different types of lace cut and sewn to make a religious looking crown.

Boning will be added to the middle and the sides to keep it looking structured making it more secure, a small elastic band will be added also to the back of the piece to secure it at the back of the head which will then be covered with the remaining hair.

I tried out a plait today with this piece pinned into place to see how the hair would look pulled away from the face. The plait worked and my model's face looked more elegant with the hair away from the face so I decided to try a waterfall type plait as plaits are very much a trend at the moment with braids being a real focal point in these past coming months.

This was the result (would be much neater) but I feel that this look reinforces the idea that we are all linked and that love is one thing that is in all of us which Riccardo Tisci wanted to represent in his show 'love is everything'.

As the lace piece is the main focal point the make-up look is very irredecent and has an angelic element to it with highlighted, dewy skin with the Givenchy Illuminating powder with wet look eyes.

I
